Stable

LuaStudio 1.0.0

LuaStudio 1.0.0 is the first stable Windows x64 release of LuaStudio, a focused IDE for Lua development. It includes a type-aware Lua editor and project analysis, project templates and dependency tools, configurable Lua and LuaJIT execution, native EXE and DLL builds, debugging through DAP adapters, C/C++ editing, and web/NUI tools for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, PHP, and Nginx/OpenResty projects.

Release notes

LuaStudio 1.0.0 — First Stable Release

LuaStudio 1.0.0 is the first stable release of LuaStdio: a Windows IDE for
writing, understanding, running, debugging, and building Lua projects. It brings
Lua language services, project tools, native application builds, and web/NUI
workflows together in one workspace.

Lua editing and language services

  • Edit Lua with syntax highlighting, code folding, completion, signature help,
hover information, semantic highlighting, inlay hints, and live diagnostics.
  • Use EmmyLua annotations to describe classes, fields, aliases, function
parameters, and return values so the editor can provide richer type-aware
    assistance.
  • Navigate to definitions, inspect references and symbols, rename with a
reviewable edit preview, apply supported quick fixes, and format a document
    or selection.
  • Analyze project modules and static require() calls across files. LuaStudio
reports parser and project diagnostics in the Problems view and marks errors
    and warnings in the editor.
  • Search current documents, open documents, or project files. Project-wide
replacements are previewed and checked against the source before they are
    applied.

Projects, templates, and workspace

  • Create and open LuaStudio projects, browse project files, work with multiple
document tabs, and use the Start Window to reopen recent projects.
  • Start from templates, including native Windows applications, command-line
tools, file-processing tools, background workers, and LuaJIT examples.
  • Use the Project Explorer, Output, Debug Output, Search Results, and Problems
tool windows. Choose light or dark appearance and configure editor, language,
    runtime, build, and application settings.
  • Manage LuaRocks packages and project dependencies with version and platform
compatibility checks. LuaStudio supports Lua-only rocks and can use a
configured LuaRocks installation for packages that need native build tools.

Run and debug Lua

  • Configure Lua interpreters and run the active Lua file or project, with
captured output and a Stop command.
  • Work with PUC Lua versions 5.1 through 5.5 or LuaJIT 2.1. LuaStudio can help
install and configure supported runtimes; the IDE package itself does not
include a general-purpose Lua interpreter for ordinary script execution.
  • Compile bytecode with a matching luac executable when one is configured.
  • Set breakpoints and use the Debug views through a configured Lua Debug
Adapter Protocol (DAP) adapter. A compatible debugger adapter is not bundled.

Native Lua application builds

  • Build Lua projects as Windows x64 console or GUI executables and native DLLs.
The generated application includes its selected PUC Lua runtime; project
modules, assets, LuaRocks modules, and native dependencies can be packaged
    with the build.
  • Choose folder or single-file packaging, embed resources, and use supported
    compression and incremental-build options.
  • Build against PUC Lua 5.1.5, 5.2.4, 5.3.6, 5.4.9, and 5.5.1, or a compatible
    LuaJIT 2.1 x64 toolchain.
  • Native builds use MSVC and the Windows SDK. LuaJIT native builds require its
matching x64 development files. Generated programs target Windows x64; folder
output must be distributed with its adjacent application data directory.

C, C++, web, and NUI work

  • Open C and C++ files with language-aware coloring, folding, editing commands,
and project settings. Optional clangd provides semantic completion,
navigation, highlighting, and diagnostics; optional clang-format provides
    formatting.
  • Edit HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, PHP, and Nginx/OpenResty files with
language-specific syntax coloring, folding, and the implemented completion,
    validation, and formatting tools.
  • Preview project pages in a docked WebView2 browser with responsive viewport
sizes, file watching, and FiveM/RedM NUI message simulation.
  • Start OpenResty, FiveM, and RedM projects from templates with project-aware
    web and NUI settings.
  • Use the project-configured OpenResty tools and HTTP request workspace for
local web development. OpenResty itself is an external installation.

Requirements and optional tools

This is a Windows x64 release. The application is published with the .NET
runtime included. Web previews require the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
Running ordinary Lua scripts uses a configured Lua interpreter. Native builds
require MSVC and the Windows SDK; C/C++ semantic services and formatting use
optional clangd and clang-format installations. Debugging uses a configured
DAP adapter.
